Job Summary:

The Finance Officer will be responsible for financial planning, executing and &TIMELY REPORTING. S/he will be responsible to the FM and Deputy General Managerfor the development, installation and implementation of all financial systems and procedures in Awach SACCOS Ltd.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To ensure Financial processes maximize organizationaloutcomes
  • To develop and implement procedures and activities that will ensure the adequacy of cash flows in Awach ASACCOS Ltd,
  • To develop and maintain a financial system that provides fast, up to date and timely financial reports in the ASACCOS Ltd
  • To record and maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers of all financial transactions of the entire ASACCOS Ltd,
  • To prepare timely, accurate and reliable financial reports for decision making by managers and the Board i.e. – monthly trial balance, income and expenditure statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and loan delinquencies,
  • To ensure that the society operations adhere to financial and accounting policies and procedures at all time,
  • To maintain proper books of accounts according to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs), other legislations and regulatory requirements,
  • The ASACCOS Ltd assets are safeguarded and optimally utilized for the benefit of the society,
  • The ASACCOS Ltd records are accurate and complete – which forms the basis of preparing financial reports of the society at any given time,
  • All ASACCOS Ltd documents are safely kept for further reference and auditing
  • To develop and maintain efficient cash flow management techniques to meet daily cash demands by the customers,
  • To liaise with government and other regulatory bodies in all matters related to taxes, collection of outstanding debts and accounting reporting requirements,
  • To implement, without delay, all recommendations from government regulatory bodies, BOD, internal and external audit reports and consultants based on agreements arrived at with management/BOD,
  • To supervise day to day accounting activities of staff in the department and provide support and backstopping to the work of staff in the department,
  • Ensure that the office has vehicles appropriate to its needs,
  • Oversee all administrative filing and records, and archiving.
  • Ensure that all major financial (or other) commitments with other parties are covered by a legal written agreement,
  • Provide support to the office in all other administrative matters,
  • Ensure that staffs move from step to step up their grade as appropriate,
  • Prepare the staff list every month/quarter,
  • Review staff training needs, and organize for them to be met,
  • Undertake any other duties that may be requested by the DGM & GM.

Key Qualifications and Skills including Personal Qualities

  • Ability to write clear and concise reports;
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Proven ability to produce results within tight deadlines in a very busy environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Analytical skills and decision making ability even in complex and sensitive situations
  • Minimum of a B.A., in Cooperative Accounting, Finance, MBA or related
  • At least 5 years (BA/BSc degree) and 3 years (MA/MSc degree) of overall professional experience
  • Knowledge of accounting and reporting software (Peachtree, Advanced MS Excel,
